Welcome to West Moreton Academy of Martial Arts

Welcome to the official web site for the West Moreton Academy of Martial Arts or as we affectionately refer to ourselves WAMA. Our club, which was established in 1994, is a member of The Queensland Karate Association and the Australian Karate Federation. WAMA and is taught by a team of experienced black belt instructors lead by Sensei Murry Burrows 4th Dan and trains in Itosu Shtio-ryu Kai Karate.

Our main Dojo is located at Redbank Plains State High School. We also have a branch at Laidley State High School, where Sensei Burrows, also a high school science teacher, conducts the only Karate course in the Queensland State school system. We have five different grade levels which train both independently and together as training groups over a ten week period or term. The results from this have been very good with our members advancing at an increased rate.

Our members are divided into a basic class (white 10th Kyu to orange belt 8th Kyu), a Junior Kyu class (Red 7th Kyu to Full Blues belt 4th Kyu), Senior Kyu class (Purple belt 3rd Kyu to Full brown belt 1st Kyu) and Black belt class (1st Dan and above). We have been very successful in the past in tournament Kumite. Many of our members over the years and currently have successfully competed in the Queensland Karate team, competing at both a state and national level.
